Kelley Keehn --- "Reverse Mortgages" On-air & Online

Edmonton-based financial professional Kelley Keehn and I talked reverse mortgages when she called me after a colleague gave her a copy of “Reverse Mortgages: Best Friend, Worst Enemy...Your Choice!” Kelley incorporated some of the ideas we discussed into her national CBC radio column, which is syndicated to 18 stations across the country, and in her blog ( href="http://kelleykeehn.blogspot.com">kelleykeehn.blogspot.com ). Her column and blog provide insight and perspectives on financial topics across the full spectrum of consumer concerns. Kelley also spoke to Keith Costello, President of the Canadian Institute of Financial Planners, who added an important caution about upfront fees, which are deducted from the amount borrowed.

  • For more on the important subject of costs, read  “Total Cost of Set-up and Administration” on pages 80 to 82. If fees are deducted from the amount borrowed, you're paying interest on money they get, not you.
  • The section on “Equity Preservation,” which starts on page 84, highlights the significance of carefully considering costs before you sign on.
